Yesterday, Laurie and Elias (her son) came by the gallery to see “Don’t Sweat the Technique: Ode to the Spraycan” exhibit.  They hopped in their car and drove into San Francisco from Berkeley after they read about our event on East Bay Express.  Elias (I believe he is at the tender age of 10?) is an aspiring artist and wanted to scope out the artwork.  He explored the gallery and concluded that his favorite piece was “Collateral Damage” by Refa One (well known for the intricate illustrations he creates on trains).  Lucky for Elias, Refa was at 1:AM when he made these claims.  Graciously, Refa indulged him in a conversation on why he liked it and then, continued to hit up Elias’ book and taught him a few tricks.  Positive vibes all day at 1:AM.  Refa has a big heart and now, he gained a new fan who is going to root for him as he represents Oakland in his quest to reign supreme at Estria’s Invitational Graffiti Battle on October 10th.
